Under 21CONDITIONS OF CLIMBING FOR CHILDREN/YOUNG PERSONS Children/young persons between the ages of 14-21 years may climb unsupervised. The DISCLAIMER AGREEMENT AND REGISTRATION FORM must be completed by the child/young person's parent/guardian prior to participating in any activity in the Centre. The belay test must be completed successfully before any child/young person can belay at the Indoor Climbing Centre. Children/young persons are expected to follow the Rules and Safety Policies specified by the Indoor Climbing Centre at all times. RISKS The ability of an individual to climb in the Climbing Centre gives no indication of his/her ability to climb on natural rock in the outdoor environment. Traditional or adventure climbing, in particular, requires skills that cannot be learned on the indoor climbing walls. The soft flooring under the walls is designed to provide a more comfortable landing for climber's falling/jumping from the wall. IT DOES NOT MAKE THIS ACTIVITY ANY SAFER. Broken and sprained limbs can result from falling off the climbing wall despite the soft landing. Uncontrolled falls may result in injuries either to the climber or to others around them. THE BELAY TEST If you plan to belay your child, you must take the belay test. The Parent/Guardian must complete the REGISTRATION AND DISCLAIMER AGREEMENT. If the child does not pass the belay test, the staff member will convey which aspects of the test were not fulfilled. Also, the staff member will point out areas in need of further experience before undergoing another test. CLIMBING INSTRUCTION |
